So, today I’m not in the best of moods. Nothing is making me happy, well other than the fact that we have a new baby in the family which has saved this day from being the worst day ever. It’s not really the worst day ever – but it really is a crap-ass day. So, when I heard the story, details here from TMZ.com, about Baltimore Raven’s running back, Ray Rice, knocking his fiancé unconscious, well let’s just say not very nice words came out of my mouth.
If you have the stomach for it, TMZ has posted a video of Mr. Rice dragging his unconscious fiancé out of an elevator at a casino in Atlantic City, NJ. As he drags her out and lays her on the floor, her feet still in the path of the elevator door, he appears to “wash his hands” of her. Who knows if he would have left her there by herself – thank goodness for what looks like a security guard who immediately approaches the couple. According to documents, reported on TMZ, Mr. Rice and his fiancé had been fighting and both were guilty of assaulting each other. I guess he won, huh?
Mr. Rice’s lawyer was quoted to say, “We’ll assure the public that when this matter is fully tried and completed, you’ll have a better understanding of what happened and we ask the public to reserve making any judgment until all of the facts come out.” Really? I’m not going to make a judgment until I hear more of the story? Are you kidding me? The fact is – this man, who weighs more than this woman and who is obviously stronger than this woman, made a choice to hit her so hard that she was knocked out. I don’t care if she was driving you crazier than you’ve ever been driven – I don’t care if she was calling you the worst names ever – I don’t care if she was hitting you (which was wrong and by the way she did get arrested that night for “assaulting” Mr. Rice)! SUCH bullsh*t!!!!
What the heck is happening to our society when crazy-good athletes are above the law? Not naming any names, but ya gotta admit some of these athletes are literally getting away with murder. Our super-athletes, and probably even some of our good athletes down to high school level, have become celebrities and live in a different state of reality than we simple folk, in some cases. I love a great athlete as much as the next guy/girl, but it’s unbelievable how blatantly obvious the law, as well as morality, is disregarded when you are up on that pedestal of fame.
Violence against ANYBODY infuriates me – not from any past personal experience, thank God, but it just disturbs me to the core. Whether it’s random violence, domestic violence, bullying – whatever. Even when my 2 sons get into a physical altercation, even though I know that’s somewhat normal – it enrages me. But, what bothers me the most is when it’s not a fair fight. Ray Rice is about 212 pounds and is quite muscular. His fiancé is probably on the lines of 120 pounds. Wow – what a “man” – NOT!
I just hope and pray that maybe, just maybe, Ray Rice will be made an example of. Maybe, even though he has enough money to get the best lawyers, justice will be served and the slap of reality will show that this type of behavior is disgusting and unacceptable! I don’t really know what kind of guy Ray Rice is, other than from this incident. He may otherwise be a really great guy who made a terrible split-second decision. And, that sucks. But, that doesn’t excuse what is evident from this video.
Ok, rant over. Hmmm – maybe being in a bad mood makes for a great post. It will be interesting to see how this all turns out.
