Do you wake up in the morning with the best intentions of going to the gym or meeting up with your buddy to walk and then before you know it, the day has flown by and you never got around to it? Yeah, me too! Funny how that happens. In the winter months it’s twice as hard because you don’t have the nice weather calling your name and saying come on out and play with me!
Well, do I have the solution for you! I recently re-joined Weight Watchers and went to my first meeting. Of course I thought, I’ve heard it all before….yada, yada, yada. Just weigh me and let me be on my merry way. But their meetings are successful for a really good reason: people who are on the weight loss journey have some great things to say and really useful ideas for staying on track. In this first meeting, they were talking about exercise. Now, I belong to a gym and when the weather is nice I walk 3 miles or more with a walking buddy. But lately with the rain, snow, wind, and cold weather, I leave the warmth of my home as little as possible. I have to admit that I haven’t stepped foot in my gym for quite a while now.
The Weight Watchers leader was going around the room asking people what they do to stay on track with exercise during the cold winter months. One girl mentioned free YouTube exercise videos. “Hmmmmm!!! ” I told myself. And I took a mental note of it. In the meantime, I had already purchased a couple exercise DVDs because I wanted to start exercising at home.
I wish I had waited to purchase these DVDs now because I’m finding everything I need right on YouTube and it’s absolutely free.

As you can see, there are probably enough workouts on YouTube for you to do a different one every day for a year and then some!
The way I found some well rated exercise videos was to go to websites with exercise DVD customer reviews. One great website for this is Amazon.com. Another one is Walmart.com.
Like I mention in my video tutorial, a lot of the highly rated exercise videos are not offered on YouTube, or if they are, they just have short excerpts but not the entire video. However, Leslie Sansone, Jillian Michaels, Denise Austin, and the Biggest Loser workouts, as well as many many more that I haven’t listed, are on YouTube for your free use.
You can either enlarge the video to a full screen on your computer and move the desk chair away and do the video right there, or if your TV has internet access, you can play the video on your TV.
I absolutely love that I now have this extra option of getting in my exercise. I’m one who gets bored easily with the same exercise over and over. I get burned out at the gym. I get tired of walking all the time. I buy home cardio equipment and use it for a while and then let it sit to gather dust. But if I mix it up and do something different each day: walk one day, gym the next day, exercise video the following day, etc. I’m so much more likely to not get bored and just give up altogether.
