I’ve been visiting Valley View Acres for years, and one thing I always notice is how peaceful it feels the moment you walk into the fields. Even when it’s busy, there’s something about standing among thousands of sunflowers with the Middletown Valley in the background that instantly slows you down.

Every summer, Valley View Acres transforms into one of the most beautiful places to visit in Frederick County. Thousands of bright yellow sunflowers bloom across rolling fields overlooking the Middletown Valley, creating a picture-perfect destination for families, couples, photographers, and anyone looking to enjoy a peaceful morning or afternoon outdoors.
During the annual Sunflower Festival, visitors can stroll through the fields, cut their own sunflowers to take home, shop from local vendors, enjoy food and ice cream, and take in some of the best countryside views in Maryland.
Bloom dates vary each year depending on the weather, so it’s always a good idea to check Valley View Acres’ social media before making the trip.
What You’ll Find at Valley View Acres
One of the things I love most about Valley View Acres is that it’s more than just a sunflower field. The farm has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that makes it easy to spend a couple of hours wandering through the flowers, sitting in the shade, or simply enjoying the scenery.
In addition to the sunflower fields, you’ll often find food vendors, ice cream, handmade crafts, children’s activities, and plenty of open space to spread out and enjoy the fresh air. Whether you’re visiting with your family, planning a girls’ day out, or looking for a fun date idea, there’s something for everyone.

With 3 outbuildings, 2 separate fields of sunflowers, a huge field of wildflowers, and an amazingly picturesque location, Valley View Acres’ Sunflower Festival is the perfect excuse for families to take a ride out to the country and enjoy the great outdoors!

Best Photo Spots at Valley View Acres
If you’re hoping to capture beautiful photos, Valley View Acres won’t disappoint. The sunflower fields stretch across the hillside with scenic mountain views in the background, creating gorgeous backdrops no matter where you look.
For the best lighting, try visiting early in the morning or during the hour before sunset when the light is softer and more flattering. Bright clothing in white, denim, blue, or soft neutrals tends to photograph beautifully against the vibrant yellow flowers. Don’t forget to look around between photos and simply enjoy the moment. Sometimes the best memories aren’t the ones you post on social media.
As I was taking pictures of the sunflowers, the butterflies were floating from flower to flower and the bees were happily buzzing around.
Pick Your Own Sunflowers at Valley View Acres
One of the highlights of visiting Valley View Acres is bringing home your own bouquet of fresh-cut sunflowers. As you walk through the fields, you’ll have plenty of beautiful blooms to choose from, making it easy to create a bouquet that’s uniquely yours.
The farm typically provides pruning shears for visitors, but they can be in high demand during busy weekends. If you have your own pair, it’s worth bringing them along. I also recommend bringing a bucket or vase filled with water in your car so your flowers stay fresh on the ride home.
The overall feeling I got when I parked my car and headed over to the sunflower fields, was just pure peace and joy!
Sunflowers are like God’s way of creating a huge, bright smiley face to brighten anyone’s day!
And today it totally brightened my day AND Terri’s day because I brought her a bunch of sunflowers for her to display in her kitchen.
I’m nice like that!
Tips Before You Go
