Asian chicken lettuce wraps, or anything wrapped in lettuce for that matter, seems to be the new thing these days in restaurants.
With many people going on low carb diets, lettuce is a great substitute to use in place of bread.
Because, to be honest, bread is just a vessel for what’s inside of a sandwich.
So, lettuce ask you {see what we did there?} why not save a ton of carbs and use lettuce in place of bread for your some of your recipes?

Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps
This Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps recipe is super easy to make and a nice change from the typical sectioned out meat + veggies + starch meal.
Use Aldi Ingredients For Your Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps
I’ve recently decided to start making recipes using only ingredients I’ve bought from Aldi.
I love shopping at Aldi because their food is high quality and their prices are super competitive!
For this Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps recipe, I already had some of the ‘staples’ ingredients that most people keep in their pantry.
So a couple of my ingredients are items I’ve had since before I became an Aldi addict.
But the other ingredients are from Aldi.
Instacart Is Great For Busy Weeks
I’ve never been one who enjoys grocery shopping.
However, because Aldi switches up a lot of their offerings, especially in their seasonal items aisle, I look forward to going in the store to see the new stuff.
I’m finding out that once these items are gone, they’re gone!
So, if you see something that you really like, snag it!
On the other hand, there are certain weeks that I’m just too busy to take the trek out to my local Aldi.
And now that I have the option to use Instacart during these weeks, I take full advantage of it!
If you’ve never tried Instacart, here’s my code for you to get $10 off your first order (I get $10 too for referring you! Win-Win!): PSTULTZ12D191
Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps Recipe
So back to the recipe.
As you can see from my pictures below, it’s super easy to make!
I couldn’t find two ingredients from the original recipe at Aldi: water chestnuts or hoisin sauce.
Aldi needs to step up their game with Asian ingredients.
We found Hoisin Sauce on Amazon if you can’t find it anywhere else.
However, Aldi did have this amazing Thai Red Sauce.
So I used it as a substitute for the hoisin sauce.

- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 lb ground chicken
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 1 small yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, I used minced garlic
- 8 ounces water chestnuts (drained)
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce, I used Aldi's Thai Red Sauce
- 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 8 leaves romaine or butter lettuce
Instructions
- Heat oils over medium heat in a skillet.
- Add ground chicken and break up with a spatula until cooked through.
- Add chopped onion & garlic to ground chicken and cook for approximately 5 minutes or until onion is translucent.
- In a small bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce (or Aldi's Thai Red Sauce), soy sauce, sesame oil, vinegar, ginger, and sweet chili sauce (I omitted the sweet chili sauce based on my personal taste preference).
- Pour whisked mixture over cooked chicken mixture and stir well.
- Simmer over medium heat for 5 minutes.
- Add chopped water chestnuts to mixture and stir.
- Remove from heat and place 1/4 cup amounts of mixture into each lettuce leaf.
- Serve immediately.
If you don’t have ground chicken, you can use ground beef or ground turkey.
Also, if you need a good skillet, this Stainless Steel Skillet with Glass Cover gets great reviews on Amazon!
I wasn’t able to find butter lettuce at Aldi, so I used romaine lettuce and it worked great!
This recipe states that it serves 4 people, but I have a family of 3 and it was just enough.
So if you have a family who loves to eat, you may want to double this recipe based on the number of servings.
You can serve your Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps with a nice side of jasmine rice or get really creative and make some steamed dumplings to go with it.
We found this really cool Bamboo Asian Steam Pot on Amazon.
It can steam rice, dumplings, veggies, fish, and meat!
My family loved this recipe!
It’s fun to be able to pick up your meal and not require utensils!
